The County of Meath lies in the province of Leinster in northeast Ireland. Meath is bounded by the counties of Monaghan, Louth, Fingal, Kildare, Offaly, Westmeath, and Cavan, while the Irish Sea glitters to the east of the county. It is the only county to contain two Gaeltacht areas within the province of Leinster. The county earns its name from the historic Kingdom of Meath with Midhe meaning centre. The original county of Meath contained Meath, Westmeath and parts of Longford and Cavan. The county was born in the 13th-century and once held the seat of the High King of Ireland which was once set in Tara. Brú na Bóinne or the Boyne Valley tombs include of the burial sites of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, and is over 5,000 years old. The county is immersed in Irish history and lore. Set a short distance from Dublin, County Meath offers numerous unique and historically famous landmarks. There are many places of interest like the Hill of Tara which was the ancient historical site of the High King of Ireland; the castles Trim, Slane, Killeen, and Dunsany. Other great sites include Loughcrew, Tayto Park, and Dangan Castle.
