The island of Pinkhill Lock has just enough space for a lockkeeper's house and a small group of trees, of which a portion is available for tent camping. Amble past the lockkeeper's digs, surrounded by manicured gardens, and walk past a gap in the hedge to reach the new wooden shed holding a small bathroom with a clean and modern loo and shower. Sit back on the weir and gaze dreamily at the water falling over it, or sip on a cold drink of choice as you watch the boats and barges gliding on gleaming waters. Active types who dislike the thought of idling are welcome to follow numerous footpaths leading off from the campsite, including Thames Park, and strolls through a sprawling wetland brimming with various flora and fauna.
