It offers guests access to a large open meadow where one will see thin threads of campfire smoke wafting lazily up to the star-studded sky. The field itself is enveloped by mature hedges and trees, with a flock of Ryeland sheep managing the grass levels throughout the year. No more than twenty tents are allowed at any time, ensuring space, peace and a lovely traditional feel that becomes a tent-only camping escape. Kids have ample room to roam as the site is safe from roads and vehicles so encourage some time away from screens and textbooks. Luxury lovers can live it up in the sole refurbished shepherd’s hut, which features a full-size bed, a fitted kitchenette and a log burner for toasty evenings.
