Blackdown Yurts is an award-winning glampsite, deliberately kept small to provide guests heaps of space and privacy for a well-earned escape from the city's hectic life. The small, eco-friendly site rests on a peaceful smallholding on the fringes of the Blackdown Hills in Devon. Kick back in your well-equipped yurt as you soak in the sights and sounds of the surrounding woodland that brims with an abundance of wildlife, including several species of woodland bat, like Oipistrelles and Daubentons. Bring along your field glasses to view the creatures perched upside down at daytime, or watch as they come to life at dusk, flittering over the still ponds as they head out to feed. The kids will love a night-time bat watching adventure with the cheery hosts, who'll provide bat detectors and guide guests on a walk in the surrounds. At sunrise, the buzzards and swallows come out to play, and an odd timid deer will come around for a peep. It's all about the outdoors at this friendly site, so go ahead and fire up the grill for alfresco sizzles, or bring along marshmallows and a guitar for sing-alongs under the sparkling, star-studded sky. The water comes from a natural spring, and the lighting is solar. Friendly dogs are most welcome.
