Alston Farm boasts a long and intriguing history in camping, having been the only campsite in the area since its founding in 1961. Throngs of cheery holidaymakers with their families would descend on this quiet, welcoming, and peaceful camping base with small tents and oodles of anticipations of breezy summer days by the glimmering ocean. Camping back then was very basic; however, that did little to deter these adventuresome folk that were happy to kick back without the guarantee of a toilet or shower. Today, the site welcomes the children (now adults with kids) of the camping folk who frequented this friendly site. Ask a regular, and they’ll recount balmy summer days helping the farmer feed newborn orphan lambs, delicious teas made with fresh milk from the farm cows and summer playmates that would traipse through the long grass in the golden sunshine. Head over with a tent or touring vehicle and set up camp on a grass pitch next to a stream shaded by the leafy branches of shaggy trees. As in days of yore, amenities are kept to the essentials, including toilets, hot showers, drinking water taps, and gas exchange. There are no electric meters; however, a handy shop stocks food and other camping items on the premises. Pets are most welcome.
