Blend history with scenery at Donkey Down Campsite, a friendly, tranquil ten-acre site, nuzzled amid the countryside's rolling greenery, with stunning views out towards the gleaming waters around Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour. There is an abundance of open space and freedom for campers to pick their pitch on a sprawling organic livestock farm. There is a Neolithic tumulus on-site – one of several ancient burial mounds sprinkled across these parts of the South Dorset Ridgeway path, which is directly accessible from the campsite. Walking enthusiasts can also access the South West Coast Path with ease, so don't forget to pack in your walking shoes for ambles across the South Dorset Ridgeway landscape. The picturesque village of Sutton Poyntz is within easy reach, providing guests with access to the local pubs, pretty footpaths winding past streams and through the lush countryside, plus a Spar and a cooperative store. Set aside a couple of days for coastal capers at nearby stretches of seaside like Overcombe, Ringstead, and Weymouth, all located under a fifteen-minute drive from the site. Grab supplies and bits in Preston and rumble back to base in anticipation of alfresco eats courtesy of the grill, or prepare for an evening of stargazing while marshmallows brown over the flickering flames. Primitive grass pitches and bell tents are available for hire. Pets are welcome.
