The Barge Inn is a welcoming and peaceful base offering a range of accommodations to suit all budgets, travel needs, and group sizes. This spacious and beautiful base is under new management, who now want to bring this fantastic property to its former glory. The building was constructed in 1810 to service the newly constructed Kennet and Avon Canal, serving as a modern-day motor service station, yet was badly burned down in the 1850s. Following its record rebuild, the property now stands as it did then and enjoys a delightful position in the canal. Take a somewhat uninspiring track down to the pub, and find yourself delightfully surprised as you walk into the pub - a canal front pub with barges peacefully sitting alongside the lovely old building on shimmering quiet water. Sit out in the sunshine and sip on your tipple of choice as you nibble on dishes from a straightforward and budget-friendly menu. There is an excellent selection of beers and ciders for post-exertion relaxing and impromptu sessions on Fridays. The campsite rests at the rear of the pub and welcomes tents, caravans, and motorhomes. Glamping bell tents are also available for hire, and there are lovely ensuite bed and breakfast rooms. Pets are welcome.
