We started our journey exploring campsites in the Lizard Peninsula and took an approximate hour's drive up to picturesque Penzance via the A3083 and A394. After a restful couple of nights (hopefully at one of our recommended campsites in Penzance), we rumble further up the coastline to spectacular St Ives. The total driving time from Penzance to St. Ives is at most 25 minutes on the B3311 or the A30. We'll post again when it's time to explore another fantastic Cornish big hitter - Portreath.

St. Ives is no different, with the closest beach being Carbis Bay, located under a mile from the coastal town. Overall St. Ives boasts seven golden sand beaches, all a stroll from the centre of town, with Harbour Beach serving as its most frequented shores, and Porthmeor proving to be a big hitter with the surfing community. Visitors can swim in the seas of St Ives throughout the year (with the necessary precautions, e.g. weather etc. ), and there are several pet-friendly coastlines like Porthgwidden and Lambeth. All the beaches have access to toilets, and all beaches are near council car parks. It might be near impossible to find parking spots in the height of summer, so consider leaving your camper at St. Ives Rugby Club, and hopping on the shuttle bus to your preferred beach.     Gwithian Farm Campsite is a small, family-run site on the other side of St. Ives bay. While the campsite doesn't afford direct access to the coastline, there is a handy path from the site leading directly down to the Gwithian Towans beach, which is a hit with the surfers, and often empty, even in summer. Pitches offer the option of electric metres, and facilities are simpler than the larger touring sites: however, pets are most welcome to tag along. A blend of grass and hardstanding pitches, all a minimum of 10m x 10m, offer ample room to include an awning as well. Gwithian Farm Campsite is a fantastic spot for campers who want a quiet spot, away from the holiday bustle, to explore St. Ives and Cornwall.

    Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park is another worthy consideration if you don’t mind camping in the Cornish countryside. The site has an adults-only camping area during summer, and offers an excellent range of amenities, with modern toilets housed in converted barns, hot showers, a TV room, a bar and a shop. Serviced, non-serviced and super pitches are available for tents and touring vehicles. St. Ives is a short drive or a long walk through the hills, and the site welcomes tents, campervans, caravans, and motorhomes.

    Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park is a family-run campsite, ideally located a short drive from the arty town of St Ives. The family-friendly site is a mere five-minute drive from the buzzing town centre and serves as an excellent base for capers to the stunning scenery of the Land's End peninsula.

    Ashdon Farm is a delight for campers who enjoy unwinding in the Cornish countryside, with lovely rural views and plenty of space to stretch out. Located an hour and a half via the A30 from bustling St. Ives. this restful location sits on 100 acres of woodland and pasture meadows, with lush woodlands next to the one-acre camping field. Located between the border between Cornwall and Devon, Ashdon Farm is a certificated site with hardstanding pitches and 16 amp electric connections for motorhomes and trailers. The enclosing countryside is a walker's delight, and there is a lovely dog walk to exercise your pets.

    Mousehole Camping is a stunning site providing a back to basics camping experience on the stunning Penwith Peninsula in Cornwall. The site functions as a minor league football club and has a handy little campsite next to the playing field.

    Lower Penderleath Farm, hidden in gorgeous countryside, is a tent-only camping space perfect for spectacular sunsets and the opportunity to spot abundant wildlife.     The compact, family-run Oaks Holiday Park is an excellent spot for exploring St. Ives from Looe.
