With no less than 12 designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), it's easy to stumble across some of the finest coastal scenery, historic sites and sites of geological importance while driving along in your Cornwall campervan.

You’ll soon understand why nature lovers and outdoor aficionados return to Cornwall, often in a campervan hire, smitten by glorious displays of natural beauty at every turn. Rumble from ancient moorland, past shimmering rivers and windswept cliffs, right to a car park on a pristine beach lapped by the waters of the Atlantic. The Cornish coastline is a feast for the eyes and boasts several world-famous stretches, like the Lizard Peninsula. Cornwall is also famed for its globally recognized surfing hot spots, so why not combine your passion for surfing and adventuring in one go?

Once you’ve had your fill of sun, sea and sand, leave behind the bustling resorts for the desolate, untamed and exposed beauty of the Bodmin Moor, with far-reaching views over a primarily treeless terrain of uncovered rock, peat bogs, and heath. Cornwall's designated AONB also includes the Camel Estuary consisting of small woods, glittering creeks, sweeping views over the estuary to the ocean and small, winding lanes sheltered by hedges and trees, which are perfect for walks and cycling.

You can start exploring these spectacular AONB’s beginning from the Cornwall-Devon Border and working your way to the southern coast. Direct your campervan past wonderfully wild heathland, secret valleys and sweeping sea views along the lovely route from Morwenstow to Kilkhampton. Alternatively, make a detour on the road from Pentire Point to Widemouth to explore Tintagel, Tregardcok Beach, Port Isaac, Millook Woods, and some of the highest cliff lines in Cornwall.

If you're more the type to enjoy a laid back day of sightseeing, delve into local history at the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site of Wheal Coates. Reward yourself with a relaxing afternoon (picnic perhaps?) at Penhale Sand at St Agnes, lounging atop the impressive dunes leading to the Atlantic Ocean in the Special Area of Conservation.

For more enchanting natural beauty, wander along the rugged stretch of coastline between Portreath and Godrevy Point to explore its iconic lighthouse, and then enjoy a lazy afternoon lounging in Hell's Mouth or other small coves in the area. Nature lovers can watch seal colonies or sit back and soak in the gorgeous seascape.

West Penwith is solely for beach bums and anyone in the mood for coastal capers. This glorious stretch contains a range of exceptional beaches on the far west peninsula, and include St Ives, Cape Cornwall, Sennen and Land’s End. Take the curve to the southern side and you’ll be greeted with more fantastic coastlines, like Porthcurno, Lamorna and Mousehole. Wander from white sands to harbour villages, and let the kids lark around in lovely secret coves.
