Motorhome Hire Anglesey

The county Anglesey serves as an island county and is the largest island in Wales. The county sits on the north coast of Wales and is also the largest island in the Irish Sea. Separated by the province of Caernarfonshire on the Menai Strait, the island derives its name from Old Norse for ?ngullsey or ?nglisey which means Hook Island and ?ngli's Island respectively.

The county of Anglesey is well known for its wealth of ancient history and is one of the historic counties in Wales. The low, fertile terrain provided a productive location for the early settlers to grow grain and raise farm animals. This very terrain is what makes the county special as it is the only county in Wales that is not mountainous. The island holds many prehistoric monuments like menhirs and has a long connection with the earliest druids.

The coast around the island is gentle and sprinkled with sandy and shingle beaches however the northern coast is much rockier and serves as a haven for reposing seabirds. Highlights include the Beaumaris Castle, Britannia Bridge and Din Lligwy Roman village. The island pulls in a large number of visitors per year with the village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch serving as the biggest draw!
